Her brother introduced her to the game when she was seven. She won her first tournament, the Under-7 State Championship, and then went on to take a state title in almost every age category that followed: under 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, and the women's championship.
Chess gives a child from Indore nothing for free. Every rating point had to be taken across the board from someone fighting just as hard to keep it. She kept taking them, and while still a teenager she earned a title most players chase their whole lives and never hold: Woman FIDE Master.
